Each year, in the early days of September, my grandma would say to me: “Honey, it’s time for harvest!” — which meant, soon we’d be going to our small mountain village and get to work!

Oh how I waited for those days filled with crisp early mornings, golden sunsets, the first fallen leaves, and the smell of hay stacks, warm milk, and the crackling of the fireplace…

My job was to put white beans in one bag and heirloom beans in another. Then I’d move on to peas, corn, walnuts, hazelnuts, and chestnuts. Grandma would tell me old ghost stories (she was convinced they were true!), the radio would play softly in the background, we’d have some tea, laugh, and just work with our hands.

My grandma’s hands were rough and rugged from all the hard work, but they were also the warmest, softest, and kindest hands. So each year, when mid-August rolls around, I always feel her presence with me. As if she’s about to call me and say, “Honey, it’s harvest time!” — and just for a little bit, I can spend some more time with her again.

Those days stayed with me. I never stopped dreaming of having my own little farmhouse in the countryside with a garden where I can tell my daughter that it’s harvest time and teach her about the abundance of nature, God, and the food we get to grow with our hands.

how to prepare for the cozy fall season

A Soft Goodbye To Summer

I was never really a summer lover. Autumn is my season, and I’m counting down the days until September. The slight chill in the air, the stores displaying their fall items and decorations, and the first pumpkin flavors of the season are what keeps me going in August.

So, to say a soft goodbye to summer, I’m slowly planning cozy activities for fall, prepping my fall blog content, getting my home and wardrobe ready, and daydreaming about my favorite season.

Some beautiful soft ways to say goodbye to summerand prepare for fall can be journaling about how you spent it, what memories you made, and what you’ll take with you into the next season. You can also start thinking about some slow living fall activities you’d like to do or the routines and rituals you’d like to establish.

Preparing for the Cozy Season

To prepare for the coziest season of the year, I started shifting towards fall in the beginning of August. For some people it’s early, but for me, summer can go its merry way already. It’s time for the -BER months and a season of sweater weather, cozy activities, long walks outside, and a whole lot of pumpkin spice lattes.

I’m officially welcoming fall this year by buying a new fall-themed apron, a recipe book, some new fall coasters, and fall fairy lights. It’s more of a celebration that summer is slowly (and finally!) coming to an end, so any signs of a slight chill in the air is a reason enough for me to prepare for fall.

Some simple and cozy things you can do to prepare your home and mood for fall include getting new scented candles, choosing your seasonal home decor, baking some homemade pies, getting outside when the weather is chilly, switching up your wardrobe…

Whatever puts you in a fall mood, if you’re ready to say goodbye to summer, then this is your permission slip!

On The Cusp Of Fall: Life In The In-Between

There’s still around a month left until the first day of fall, so until then, I’ll be living life in the in-between: yearning for what’s to come while still trying to enjoy what is.

But it’s in these days that we find little glimpses of magic. It’s in the little things that make you feel alive: the days are getting slightly cooler, the stores are full of fresh seasonal produce, and summer is slowly starting to fade into the first signs of fall…

So if you, like me, are ready to send summer off and get into all the cozy fall feels, then honey, it’s harvest time!
